Crafted yet again from the northern section of Block 10 at our Double River Estate Vineyard, this distinctive wine shows the beauty, finesse and versatility of the Cabernet Franc grape. Harvested early in the season at a significant higher yield resulted in a vivid and bright wine with hardly any color. Cool, slow fermentation in stainless steel for about 45 days delivered an expressive wine with beautiful acidity. It remained on the lees for 30 more days and was stirred once a week to enhance aromatics, mouthfeel and complexity. The idea behind this wine was to create the perfect sipping wine from Cabernet Franc for those perfect summer evenings on the patio.
The expressive bouquet show prominent notes of canned pear, santolina, dried peaches and herbs. Alluring hints of orange blossom, blue gum and currants are ever present after a little aeration. The fruit driven aromas are complemented by mouthwatering minerality, with nuances of wet stone lingering on the nose. The pleasant and viscous mouthfeel possesses ripe stone fruit characteristics in the mid-palate, framed by bright acidity for essential balance. The soft and sweet sensation on the front of the palate make this a great sipping wine, with ample acidity in the finish for that perfect food pairing. Grilled oysters, seared scallops with herbs and pine infused pork sausage with peach jam will be a great choice.
