Producing Award-Winning Wines
Basel Cellars Estate Winery had its beginnings in 2002 with the purchase of the estate property known as Double River Ranch
The appeal of the Double River Ranch property was an underground climate controlled structure which was the perfect spot to begin wine production. Added to this were the stunning grounds, a stately lodge like home surrounded by vineyards all nestled on a hill between the Yellowhawk Creek and the Walla Walla River.
Steve and Jo Marie
In 2004 Steve and Jo Marie Hansen from Vancouver, Washington joined Basel Cellars as co-owners. In 2011 they became majority owners of the winery.
"Destination Winery of the Year"
In 2005 and 2006 Basel Cellars Estate Winery was named by Seattle Magazine as "Destination Winery of the Year". The large estate with its beautiful woodwork, magnificent views and many bedrooms is available to wine club members for rental. With sweeping views of the nearby Blue Mountains it is often the site for weddings and gatherings of many kinds, including corporate retreats. In addition to the home and winery, the 96 acre estate includes Double River Vineyard, a large tasting room, manicured grounds, pool, and farm lands.
Throughout the last decade Basel Cellars has consistently produced many award winning wines. The Bordeaux style Merriment and Inspired are excellent examples of proprietary blends which have made Basel Cellars well known.
Estate grapes from Pheasant Run Vineyard and Double River Vineyard provide high quality fruit for Basel Cellars Estate production. Together the owners work with Ryan Sams Vineyard Manager and award winning Winemaker Ned Morris to continue the tradition of exceptional wine production at Basel Cellars.
